Chevrons cruise to eight-wicket win over Oman in T20 World Cup opener

ZIMBABWE launched their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in emphatic fashion this Monday, sealing a commanding eight-wicket victory over Oman in a performance that highlighted their return to the global stage after missing the previous edition.

The run chase was anchored by a decisive 68-run partnership between experienced campaigner Brendan Taylor and emerging talent Brian Bennett.

The pair steadied the innings following an early setback, erasing any lingering memories of Zimbabwe’s warm-up defeat to the same opponents and guiding their side comfortably to the target.

Taylor later retired injured, but by then, the Chevrons were firmly in control of the run chase.

The stand highlighted a seamless blend of generations, with Bennett just one year old when Taylor made his international debut in 2004, and only four when he featured at the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007.

Earlier, Zimbabwe’s bowlers had laid the platform with a disciplined and ruthless display.

Seamers Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava and Brad Evans shared nine wickets between them, each claiming three, as Oman were dismissed for 103.

Zimbabwe reached the target at 106 for 2, with Bennett anchoring the innings to finish unbeaten on forty-eight and sealing an eight-wicket victory.

The win marks Zimbabwe’s first appearance at the T20 World Cup after missing the last edition and provides momentum ahead of a heavyweight Group clash against Australia on Friday.
