Chevrons confident of good prospects against Sri-Lanka

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

CHEVRONS caretaker coach Walter Chawaguta is confident of a good outing when they face Sri Lanka in a limited-overs series that gets underway with the first One Day International set for Colombo on Saturday.

Zimbabwe faced Sri Lanka on the back of failing to qualify for the T20 and ODI World Cups as well as a disheartening home loss to Ireland last month.

The recent poor form forced head coach Dave Houghton to throw in the towel ahead of the tour to Asia.

However, caretaker coach Walter Chawaguta, who previously had a stint as Chevron’s head coach before his latest appointment, is confident, his charges can come to the party.

He said, “It’s been pleasant to be back with the team and being involved with what’s going on, in what I believe is a turnaround, us taking a new leaf in the way things are, obviously, we have come from a bad space as a team and as Zimbabwe cricket in general, with the team not playing to expectations, so here we have sat down, we have had chats since last week’s regional games in Bulawayo and everyone is ready to turn things around.”

The two sides will meet in three One-day international matches set for this Saturday, then the 8th and the 11th of this month while the three T20 internationals will start on the 14th with all matches set for the Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
