Chevrons collapse, follow on after Mulder triple century

ZIMBABWE have it all to do in the second test after collapsing on the second day and being forced to follow-on at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo this Monday.

Following a defeat in the first encounter, the Chevrons were looking for a series leveling victory in the second Test, but with the direction they are heading it looks a difficult task.

Zimbabwe were bowled out for 170 in their first innings and were forced to follow on, 456 runs behind, after Wiaan Mulder unbeaten on 367, declared South Africa’s first innings during the lunch interval on 626/5.

At the close of play, Zimbabwe were 51 for 1 in their Second Innings, trailing by 405 runs.

Mulder, captaining South Africa for the first time, was only 33 runs short of Brian Lara’s world Test record of 400 not out when he declared.

Once again, the hosts struggled with the bat, with veteran Sean Williams, who spent most of the match on the sick bed, slammingd 83 not out off 55 balls in Zimbabwe’s only innings of substance.

With his dismissal, the familiar collapse ensured and Zimbabwe were bundled out easily.

Forced to go back onto the field, the Chevrons lost the wicket of Dion Myers to end the day at 51 for 1 going into day three.
