CCC’s strategic ambiguity fuels chaos as candidates refuse to withdraw

Story by Wellington Makonese

Confusion continues to reign supreme in the opposition Triple C with some candidates vowing not to withdraw their candidature after the party fielded double candidates in a number of constituencies.

This has attracted the attention of political analysts who are convinced that the opposition outfit’s purported strategic ambiguity has brought fissures in its ranks.

The CCC’s purported strategic ambiguity has been attributed to cracks in the opposition party as the sitting of the nomination court on the 21st of last month, saw the opposition outfit field more than one candidate in 13 constituencies in Harare and other constituencies in Bulawayo, Mashonaland West and East provinces.

Despite efforts to play down the gravity of the situation, there are already contestations within the party amid accusations of imposition of candidates.

St Marys Candidate Freddy Masarirevhu is the latest candidate to challenge requests for him to step down, a decision that has seen him being labelled a sell-out.

Writing on his Twitter page in the latest of his rants, Masarirevhu vowed not to withdraw his candidature as an elected member challenging the party leadership to bring evidence of alleged forgery of the party symbol.

Political analyst, Mr Takudzwa Gambiza reckons the circumstances reflect the organisational ineptitude of the opposition party.

“The issue of strategic ambiguity is a monumental failure, it’s a lack of strategy which has seen then failing to register candidates in some local authorities and double candidature in Parliament, the lack of ideology is now evident, the chaos is unprecedented in the formation of opposition since MDC and this can only give ZANU PF the leeway to victory,” he said.

The CCC also failed to field council candidates in over 90 wards countrywide.
