CAPS, Platinum, Yadah through to Chibuku Cup second round

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

FC Platinum, CAPS United and Yadah have all sealed their qualification to the next round of the Chibuku Super Cup after clinching crucial victories this Saturday.

William Manondo scored a crucial goal that gave CAPS United a one-nil victory against Bikita Minerals this Saturday.

The Premier Soccer League’s top goal scorer was precise as CAPS United continued with their newly found form, helping them pick their third victory on the trot as they eye to clinch some silverware this campaign.

The Green Machine, who have not been consistent this season have looked steady in the recent past and will be keen on clinching their first-ever Chibuku Super Cup title after city rivals clinched the silverware last year.

Elsewhere, PSL leader FC Platinum are relentless in pursuit of a season double and they beat TelOne 1-nil in a Midlands derby.

It took penalties for Yadah to secure their slot after a 1-1 draw with Chicken Inn in regulation time.

Yadah had to show nerves of steel to win 5-4 on penalties and knock Chicken Inn out of the tournament.

Action continues this Sunday, with Manica Diamonds facing off with Chegutu Pirates at Sakubva Stadium, Bulawayo giants Highlanders welcome Green Fuel to Barbourfields Stadium, while Simba Bhora’s clash against Herentals at Wadzanayi Stadium has been postponed.

The Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum’s matches were also postponed due to CAF assignments.
