Cabinet approves National Development Strategy 2

CABINET has approved the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2) blueprint which is set to guide the national development trajectory towards attainment of vision 2030.

This Tuesday saw the 34th cabinet sitting for the year 2025.

A number of issues came up for discussion and key among them was the approval of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“Cabinet approved the National Development Strategy 2: 2026-2030 which is intended to guide the national development trajectory of Zimbabwe towards the attainment of Vision 2030. Zimbabwe’s second five-year development plan, the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2): 2026-2030 seeks to consolidate the achievements recorded under NDS1 and accelerate the transformational process for attaining Vision 2030,” said the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere.

Minister Muswere highlighted the achievements under NDS1 which include the completion of the Trabablas Interchange and the Hwange Thermal Power Station Project which has added more power to the national grid.

“The country registered significant successes on most projects duringNDS 1, leveraging on domestic resources. Notable infrastructure projects completed under NDS 1 include the Trabablas Interchange, the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport Expansion, the Hwange Units 7 and 8 which added 700 megawatts to the national grid as well as extensive road rehabilitation under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme I and II, covering both urban and rural areas,” he added.

The National Development Strategy 2 will focus on 10 pillars.

“The objectives of NDS 2 will be realised through 10 identified National Priority Areas transcending across all sectors of the economy, he noted.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Professor Mthuli Ncube said NDS2 will be implemented at a time when the country is experiencing macro-economic stability.

“Remember when we started NDS1 we were recovering from COVID shocks , and also Cyclone Idai but we managed to overcome that . Now we have macro-economic stability as we start NDS2,” he said.

The performance of the country’s agriculture sector also came up for discussion during this Tuesday’s cabinet session.
