ZIMBABWE will be treated to some top notch cricket action when the Chevrons host world test champions, South Africa for two test matches at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo later this month.
The much-anticipated tour marks South Africa’s return to Zimbabwean soil for Test cricket after more than a decade, with their last red-ball encounter in the country dating back to 2014.
The upcoming matches are scheduled to commence on June 28.
Local Organising Committee Chairperson, Mr Vumindaba Moyo, confirmed that preparations are well underway to ensure the successful hosting of the tour, and he called on cricket lovers to rally behind the national team.
“We are privileged to host this match here in Bulawayo, and we are hoping to replicate the organisational success we had during Pakistan’s tour. We also hope fans will turn up in numbers to support our brothers.”
Tuskers general manager, Peter Mhlanga said the coming in of the test cricket is an opportunity for the Bulawayo community to enjoy cricket.
“We are excited to host this match in Bulawayo, and this is not our first time. Although South Africa just won the World Test Championship, we are anticipating a good match, and all preparations are complete to host it.”
South Africa have already named their squad for the series, keeping the bulk of the players who recently lifted the World Test Championship.
