PREMIER Soccer League returnees Bulawayo Chiefs are intensifying preparations for the 2026 season as they seek to establish themselves back in the top flight following their swift return from Division One.

The Bulawayo-based side sealed promotion after a dominant campaign and are now fine-tuning their squad under head coach John Nyikadzino, blending youth, experience and targeted reinforcements as they prepare for the demands of elite football.

Buoyed by lessons from past Premiership stints, Amakhosi believe experience will be key in building a resilient and competitive team capable of avoiding past pitfalls.

Team captain Malvin Mkolo said the club is returning to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with renewed ambition, not merely to survive but to compete.

“We are looking at being at the top, and so far our preparations are going on well. Both the young and veteran players are combining well,” Mkolo said.

Head coach Nyikadzino echoed the optimism, expressing confidence in the balance and depth of his squad.

“Our crop of players is critical. We are balancing experience and youthfulness, which is our strength, with an average age of 23. We have various experiences acquired over the years because we are not new to Premiership football,” he said.

As part of their rebuilding drive, Bulawayo Chiefs have strengthened their squad with five new signings, including versatile defender Kelly Shiandidi from Hwange, central midfielder Melikhaya Ncube from Highlanders, and striker Brian Muza from Chicken Inn.

In a notable move, the club has also split the Moyo twins for the first time, securing the services of left-back Elvis Moyo, while his brother Kelvin remains at reigning champions Scottland.

With preparations gathering momentum, Bulawayo Chiefs are hoping their blend of youth, experience and renewed belief will translate into a strong showing in their return to the Premiership.
