Bishop Mutendi urges Zimbabweans to maximise rains for food security

ZION Christian Church (ZCC) leader, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, has urged Zimbabweans to make full and productive use of the current rainy season by intensifying agricultural activity, while also calling on citizens to uphold prayer for the country’s leadership as a foundation for national stability.

Addressing congregants at a ZCC gathering in Chinhoyi, Bishop Mutendi said the prevailing wet spell presents a critical opportunity to strengthen household and national food security, noting that agriculture remains central to Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development.

He cautioned against leaving arable land idle during a productive season, describing such inaction as a missed opportunity not only for individual families but for the nation as a whole.

“God has opened the heavens and blessed us with rain. This rain must not fall on unproductive land. Every family must till the land, plant crops and work with discipline. A nation that works the land feeds itself and reduces suffering among its people,” he said.

Beyond agricultural productivity, the church leader also called on Zimbabweans to remain prayerful and supportive of the country’s leadership, emphasising that respect for authority, discipline and unity are essential ingredients for national progress.

“We must pray for those in leadership, from government to community level. Respect for authority brings order, and order brings progress. Discipline and respect are pillars that sustain a nation,” he added.

The Zion Christian Church is currently holding its Annual Round-Up Conference across the country and beyond, with the church reaffirming its commitment to pray for national peace, unity and economic development.
