Binga residents celebrate new registry office bringing services closer to home

ACCESS to essential civil registration and travel documents is set to improve significantly in Binga District, as construction of a new Registry Office nears completion, a development hailed by residents as a major milestone in local service delivery.

The new facility, which will provide passport issuance as well as birth and death registration services, is expected to end the long journeys residents have endured to access registry offices in distant towns such as Hwange and Lupane.

Project Foreman, Exavario Zifuke, confirmed that the building is now at an advanced stage, with roofing complete and only finishing touches remaining.

“We are building this facility to include a passport issuing office, birth and death registration offices, and other related services. There will be a total of 28 offices. While some finishing works remain, such as flooring, painting, and electrification, we are confident of delivering on schedule,” said Zifuke.

Community members expressed delight at the milestone, describing the development as a long-awaited dream.

“I cannot believe that travelling for a passport will soon be a thing of the past. When this office opens, it will be a big celebration,” said one resident.

“I just want to say to President Mnangagwa and his government, well done again and again,” added another.

The Binga facility is the latest in Matabeleland North to benefit from the decentralisation of registry services, complementing offices in Tsholotsho, Hwange, and Lupane.

The project aligns with the Second Republic’s devolution agenda, promoting inclusive development and bringing government services closer to the people.
