BINDURA – A 54-year-old man from Bindura has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of raping his 12-year-old neighbour.
The now convict from Kahari Village under Chief Masembura was convicted of rape after a full trial at the Bindura Magistrate’s Court.
The court heard that in May this year, the complainant, a grade five pupil, was left home alone by her grandmother and sister who had gone to collect firewood.
The now convict took advantage of the absence and raped her once but was caught during the act as the complainant’s sister suddenly returned home.
He fled the scene of the crime, but the community mobilised each other and apprehended him, leading to his arrest.
