BIKITA-VILLAGERS from Bikita and employees at Bikita Minerals Mining Company have benefitted from a free medical diagnosis and treatment outreach programme organised by a Chinese medical team which is in Zimbabwe.
The initiative, hosted at the newly established Bikita Minerals Clinic, forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, aimed at promoting health and wellness in surrounding communities.
“As a community, we are happy that this programme is back again and we had an opportunity to meet doctors for medical assistance. As you can see we are also receiving medication with some being referred to specialists,” a villager said.
“As employees, we are happy that our employer organises this programme every year, hence it shows that they prioritise our health and that of our families. We came in our numbers for medical attention, and they are treating us well,” one Bikita Minerals Mining Company, employee said.
The outreach is spearheaded by the 22nd Chinese Medical Team, providing services ranging from forensic surgery, respiratory medicine, and neurology, to orthopaedics, urology, and traditional Chinese medicine.
“We have come to enrich our relationship with Zimbabwe, and I understand we have been friends for more than 40 years, and we are offering various services here in Bikita, including forensic surgery, respiratory medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, anaesthesiology, urinary surgery, and traditional Chinese Medicine, among many others. For the next two days, we will be serving this community,” Chinese Medical Team Leader, Mr Zheng Xingyou said.
The initiative follows the recent commissioning of the Bikita Minerals Clinic and is aligned with government efforts to improve rural healthcare access in Masvingo Province and beyond.
As Zimbabwe continues to prioritise inclusive healthcare delivery, partnerships such as these underscore the impact of international cooperation and community-focused development.
