Bikers join fight against drug abuse

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

THIS Sunday, the Zim Free Riders Motor Cycling Club, in collaboration with the Harare City Council, took decisive action against drug and substance abuse by hosting an awareness campaign in the high-density suburb of Mbare.

The initiative was aimed at educating the local community about the dangers posed by this widespread pandemic of drug and substance abuse.

Residents of Mbare were given an opportunity to engage with bike culture as motorcyclists from across the capital gathered at the Stodart Complex for the event.

As part of their 2025 Ghetto Ride, the Zim Free Riders attracted significant attention from the crowd, who were captivated by the powerful sounds and exhilarating displays of skill by the riders.

With nearly 50 motorcyclists participating, the youth in attendance expressed their enthusiasm for the thrilling performance, which they regarded as an essential part of the fight against drug abuse.

The event organisers were equally pleased with the turnout and reiterated their commitment to spreading this important message across the nation.

“Biking is a beautiful sport and normally people when they hear this sound they are drawn. So, we saw this as an opportunity to use the sport to draw numbers and educate them on the dangers of taking substances,” Zim-Free Riders Motor Cycling Club trustee, Herbert Mutasa said.

Various sports codes have joined the fight against substance abuse by raising awareness through crowd-drawing entertainment.
