BEITBRIDGE Contractors are working extended hours as Phase One of the Beitbridge Redevelopment Programme nears completion, marking a key milestone in the government’s drive to modernise urban centres and boost service delivery.

The landmark project, implemented under the National Development Strategy Two framework, aims to transform Beitbridge through a mix of housing, road networks, and essential amenities, positioning the border town as a modern urban hub.

Deputy Director for Estate Management and Provincial Coordination in Matabeleland South, Miss Nkosinomusa Ngulube, said construction is at an advanced stage.

“We have covered enough ground because we are done with plumbing, painting and tiling and for now, we are completing the fixing of cupboards, tubs and toilet system, and we have covered almost 93 percent of the job here.”

The redevelopment programme is reshaping Beitbridge through a mix of housing, road construction and supporting infrastructure designed to accommodate a growing population and enhance service delivery.

The initiative includes the construction of residential flats, upgraded road networks and essential amenities, positioning the town as a modern urban hub.

Matabeleland South Minister of State and Devolution Affairs, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe, said authorities are targeting imminent occupation of the completed units.

“I am very happy that at least Phase 1 is complete, and we want to make sure on the 18th of this coming month the families will already be inside here, and we start to move to Phase 2,” he said.

The redevelopment is being implemented under the National Development Strategy Two framework, as Government scales up infrastructure projects to drive economic growth and urban renewal.
