THE African Union International Centre for Girls and Women in Education in Africa (African Union C.I.E.F.F.A) is mobilising stakeholders, including community champions, against child sexual exploitation.
The centre held a stakeholder engagement in Dakar, Senegal, on Tuesday, where Zimbabwe was represented by Honourable Elizabeth Masuku, who also sits in the Pan African Parliament.
Honourable Masuku emphasised the need for collective action to address child sexual exploitation, which affects millions of girls across Africa.
“We must work together to create a safe and supportive environment that allows girls to thrive,” she said.
According to UNICEF, one in three girls in Zimbabwe is married before the age of 18, with the rate even higher in West and Central Africa.
The Dakar engagement also underscored the importance of promoting the education of the girl child, which is a fundamental human right and a key driver of development.
