WARRIORS goalkeeper Washington Arubi saved three penalties and scored one himself to help Marumo Gallants progress to the semifinals of the Carling Knockout Competition at the expense of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.
The veteran shot-stopper kept a clean sheet during regular time before producing heroics in the penalty shootout of the quarterfinal clash played at Lucas Moripe Stadium this Saturday.
Arubi was the busiest player during the 90 minutes and carried his fine form into the shootout, ensuring Marumo Gallants secured a 7–6 victory.
Surprisingly, Sundowns winger Tashreeq Matthews was named Man of the Match despite Arubi’s outstanding performance between the posts.
