ARTISTS have hailed the Second Republic’s devolution agenda, citing it as a transformative force that has opened up new avenues for creative expression and community engagement.
Speaking at the District Independence Day celebrations held at Darwin High School in Mt Darwin, Precious Makomo, the leader of the musical group Precious Makomo and the God’s Saints, said the commemorations gave local performers a rare opportunity to showcase their talent.
“Whenever we get these platforms, we use them to preach against social ills affecting the youth, like drug and substance abuse,” Makomo said.
Other vibrant acts that graced the stage included the energetic Love Lala Dancing Queens, the harmonious ZPCS Choral, and the Darwin High School traditional dance group, all of whom added colour and cultural depth to the celebrations.
This year’s festivities were presided over by Mt. Darwin South legislator and ZANU PF DCC Chairman, Honourable Kudakwashe Mupamhanga, with the District Development Coordinator, Mr White Nkoma, officiating the event.
Mt. Darwin holds the distinction of being the first district to host devolved Independence Celebrations, a tradition that began in 2023 and has since become a cornerstone of the government’s efforts to promote inclusivity and local empowerment through the devolution policy.
