THE visiting African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) delegation begins its engagements with Government and civil society this Monday.

The delegation, comprising members of the Panel of Eminent Persons and led by Ambassador Aly El-Hefny, is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade before the commencement of focus group discussions with key ministries, including Finance, Energy, Agriculture, and Mining, among others.

These engagements seek to assess the progress Zimbabwe has made in strengthening economic governance and management as part of its drive to achieve an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

The visit, which runs until the 18th of this month, marks the inaugural targeted assessment by the APRM, a voluntary mechanism of the African Union (AU) designed to promote peer learning and accountability in governance among member states.

Zimbabwe voluntarily acceded to the APRM during the 29th Session of the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government held in February 2020 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
