HARARE– THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has confirmed that all is in place for the smooth conduct of parliamentary and local authority by-elections scheduled for this Saturday across selected constituencies and wards.

Addressing journalists at a media briefing held in Harare this Friday, ZEC Deputy Chairperson, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, said the electoral body had deployed adequate materials, human resources, and security personnel to ensure a credible electoral process.

“The Commission encourages candidates, political parties and their supporters to observe the electoral code of conduct and maintain peace before, during, and after the by-elections,” he said.

In Gutu East Constituency, ZANU PF candidate Cde Zvarevashe Masvingise will contest against Gift Gonese, an independent candidate, and Zivanai Nzvenga of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA).

In Insiza North, the ruling party’s Cde Delani Moyo will face off against Thabani Mlotshwa of ZAPU, Leslie Dube, an independent candidate, and Mbongeni Moyo representing the Zimbabwe National Revolutionary Party (ZNRP).

The Gutu East seat became vacant following the expulsion of the former Member of Parliament, Benjamin Ganyiwa, from ZANU PF, while the Insiza North by-election is being held to fill the vacancy left after the passing of Cde Farai Taruvinga earlier this year.

Additionally, council by-elections will be conducted in Ward 4 of Binga Rural District Council and Ward 5 of Chipinge.

ZEC has reiterated its commitment to delivering a peaceful, transparent, and professional electoral process in line with its constitutional mandate.
