FBC Holdings Limited has extended its sponsorship of the Zimbabwe Open golf tournament, unveiling a US$200 000 package in Harare this Tuesday, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the development of the sport.
The financial institution has now backed the prestigious tournament for four consecutive years, with the event set to return to Royal Harare Golf Club from May 6 to 10 as part of the Sunshine Tour calendar.
Zimbabwe Golf Association Secretary General, Mr Samuel Beta said the growing support is key to nurturing local talent and expanding the game’s reach.
“For the 2026 Zim Open, we are looking forward to a new crop of Zimbabwean players coming through. We’ve also seen new sponsors coming on board, which shows that the event is gaining momentum and attracting interest. For us, that is a positive, as growing the game is our main target,” he said.
FBC Holdings Limited Group Chief Executive, Mr Trynos Kufazvinei said the institution’s continued investment is aimed at strengthening golf development at both grassroots and elite levels.
“We believe we have contributed significantly to the development of golf in Zimbabwe and in giving it a national outlook. Through our sponsorship, we are encouraging grassroots participation and helping position Zimbabwean golf on the regional and international stage,” he said.
The tournament is expected to attract a strong field of professional and amateur golfers from across the globe, further enhancing Zimbabwe’s profile on the international golfing circuit.
Despite the stature of the event, Zimbabwean golfers have not claimed the title on home soil since 2000, a drought that has stretched for 25 years.
Last year, Mexico’s Luis Carrera broke a 24-year South African dominance, becoming the first non-South African winner of the tournament since the turn of the millennium.
With home advantage and renewed corporate backing, local golfers will be aiming to end the long wait and reclaim the title.
