A PUBLIC-private partnership is driving community development in Shurugwi after Chinese mining firm Chengxi Chengetai Investments donated solar-powered streetlights to Makusha Township and a bus to Shurugwi Football Club, enhancing public safety, sport and local development.
The solar streetlights are expected to improve visibility and security, while the bus will ease transport challenges for Shurugwi Football Club, enabling more resources to be directed towards player development.
A club representative welcomed the donation, saying it would significantly reduce operating costs.
“We have been hiring buses for every trip, so this donation will save us a lot of money. Those resources can now be invested in developing the club and supporting our players.”
Residents also applauded the installation of the streetlights.
“These streetlights are a welcome development. Some areas were unsafe at night because of poor lighting, but this project will improve security and modernise our community,” one resident said.
Chengxi Chengetai Investments Director Mr Simon Karimanzira said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to community development.
“This is part of our vision, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with the community because we share the same environment and a common future,” he said.
Government commended the collaboration, describing it as a model for inclusive development.
Shurugwi North Legislator Honourable Joseph Mpasi said:
“This generous contribution demonstrates what can be achieved when we work together. Let us continue strengthening this partnership as we build and develop our communities.”
Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Owen Ncube said public-private partnerships remain vital to improving livelihoods.
“Public-private partnerships remain critical to improving the welfare of our people. This initiative complements Government’s development agenda and is a shining example of how the private sector can contribute to transforming communities,” he said.
The initiative aligns with the National Development Strategy 2, which promotes collaboration between Government and the private sector to accelerate infrastructure development, community empowerment and improved service delivery.
