OLYMPIAN and veteran sports administrator Abel Chimukoko has been appointed Chef de Mission for Team Zimbabwe at the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, with the responsibility of leading the country’s preparations for the global sporting event.
The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) announced the appointment, describing Chimukoko as a seasoned sports administrator whose experience as an Olympian and senior police officer positions him well for the role.
A former marathon runner, Chimukoko represented Zimbabwe at the 2004 Summer Olympics and finished fourth at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships during his athletics career.
Since 2013, he has served as Director of Sports for the Zimbabwe Republic Police and has previously led Zimbabwean delegations as Chef de Mission at the SARPCCO Games in 2015, 2019 and 2022.
Chimukoko also serves as President of the Zimbabwe Olympians Association and chairs several commissions within the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee as preparations begin for the 2028 Olympic Games.
