THE Bangladesh national cricket team has arrived in Harare ahead of its Test match against Zimbabwe, which gets underway on Sunday at Harare Sports Club.
The fixture will renew a long-standing rivalry between the two sides, which first met in Test cricket in 2001 at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
On that occasion, Zimbabwe registered a memorable innings-and-32-run victory and went on to dominate the early years of the contest, winning five of the first six Test matches between the two nations.
Over the years, however, Bangladesh has emerged as a more competitive force in the longest format of the game and has gradually gained the upper hand in the head-to-head record.
The Tigers arrived in the capital on Monday ahead of a multi-format tour that begins with the opening Test before moving to Bulawayo for a T20 International series.
Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have faced each other 20 times in Test cricket, with Bangladesh holding a narrow advantage of nine victories to Zimbabwe’s eight, while three matches have ended in draws.
With the visitors leading the overall record by a single win, the Chevrons will be aiming to capitalise on home conditions and secure a result that levels the Test rivalry.
