THE Minister of Defence, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has inaugurated the Board of Directors of Changamire Construction Company, a strategic enterprise established under the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) to support national infrastructure development and enhance revenue generation for the Defence Ministry.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said the company is expected to emerge as a competitive player in the construction industry while contributing significantly to Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
She said the company will focus on the delivery of critical infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, dams, railway infrastructure and public buildings, in line with national priorities.
The Minister urged the newly appointed board to uphold the highest standards of corporate governance and ensure that the company’s operations are aligned with the objectives of the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2) and Vision 2030.
Board Chairperson Colonel (Retired) Joseph Mhukayakora pledged to provide effective leadership and oversight to ensure the company operates transparently, professionally and accountably.
“We are committed to ensuring that the company is managed efficiently and in accordance with sound corporate governance principles. Our focus will be on transparency, accountability and delivering value through infrastructure development,” he said.
The establishment of Changamire Construction Company is expected to transform the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ existing engineering and construction capabilities into a commercially viable entity capable of undertaking large-scale national projects.
Government views infrastructure development as a key enabler of economic growth, industrialisation and improved service delivery, making the company a potentially important contributor to Zimbabwe’s drive towards attaining upper-middle-income status by 2030.
