Bosso building momentum as Benjani targets continued improvement

BULAWAYO giants Highlanders are showing signs of a resurgence in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, with recent positive results under coach Benjani Mwaruwari narrowing the gap between Bosso and log leaders Scottland to nine points.

After a difficult start to the season, Highlanders appear to have rediscovered their rhythm, opening the second half of the campaign with a victory over city rivals Bulawayo Chiefs.

The morale-boosting triumph, which followed a win over AGAMA, has injected fresh confidence into the squad ahead of this weekend’s eagerly anticipated showdown against arch-rivals Dynamos.

Long regarded as draw specialists during the opening stages of the season, Bosso are beginning to convert performances into victories as they push to climb the standings.

Despite the recent improvement, Mwaruwari believes his side still has significant room for growth.

“It was a difficult game, but sometimes you have to win derbies like this. It is a morale boost for us, but we still have a long way to go. We need to improve our finishing and create more goal-scoring opportunities,” he said.

Highlanders have collected 28 points from a possible 54 in 18 matches, representing a 51 percent success rate and marking a notable improvement for a side that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

As the club’s centenary celebrations continue, supporters are hoping the recent upturn in form signals the beginning of a return to the heights that once made Bosso the dominant force in Zimbabwean football. The Bulawayo giants have not lifted the league title in two decades.

Still in the early stages of his coaching career, Mwaruwari is steadily shaping a competitive Highlanders side, with growing belief that Bosso can once again emerge as genuine contenders.
