ZIMBABWEAN author Sue Nyathi has achieved a major international breakthrough after her acclaimed novel, The Polygamist, was adapted into a trending Netflix telenovela, bringing Zimbabwean storytelling to a global audience.
The 22-episode drama, which premiered on June 12, was produced by Stained Glass Productions and features performances by Gugu Gumede as Joyce and Sdumo Mtshali as Jonasi Gomora.
The series centres on Jonasi Gomora, a successful self-made chief executive officer who leads a double life. While maintaining the appearance of a perfect marriage with his wife Joyce, he becomes entangled in multiple relationships, hidden secrets and personal conflicts that threaten to expose the truth.
The production explores themes of marriage, deception, greed, power and the complexities of polygamous relationships, while examining how secrets and dishonesty can ultimately lead to personal downfall.
Sue Nyathi is one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated contemporary authors and has written four best-selling novels, including An Angel’s Demise, A Family Affair, The Gold Diggers and The Polygamist.
The successful adaptation represents a significant achievement for the Zimbabwean writer and further highlights the growing recognition of Zimbabwean creative talent within the international entertainment industry.
