Comrade Riot remembered as dedicated youth leader and patriot

THE Midlands Province has paid its final respects to Liberation Hero Comrade Simbarashe Mutukwa, whose contribution to national development, youth empowerment and service to the ruling party earned him Liberation Hero status.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Midlands Provincial Heroes Acre in Gweru to bid farewell to the late cadre, remembered as a committed leader whose dedication to community development and empowerment initiatives left a lasting impact.

Speakers at the burial described Cde Mutukwa as a principled and loyal leader who remained steadfast in his convictions throughout his life.

“He was a devoted family man who stood firmly by his convictions from a young age and remained committed to serving his community,” said a community member.

Another mourner said Cde Mutukwa’s dedication to party programmes and youth development distinguished him as a leader of purpose.

“Loyalty defined Cde Mutukwa. He actively championed numerous party programmes and worked tirelessly to mobilise and empower young people,” the mourner said.

Mourners said his burial at the provincial shrine reflected the recognition he earned through years of service.

“Being laid to rest speaks volumes about his contribution to the nation and the recognition he earned through his service,” another mourner said.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube described the late liberation hero as a patriot whose life embodied sacrifice and commitment to national development.

“We are deeply saddened as a province and as a nation by the loss. Cde Mutukwa was a courageous and dedicated young leader who worked alongside many distinguished leaders in advancing the party’s vision. He played a significant role in youth empowerment and community development, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations,” he said.

Popularly known as Comrade Riot, Cde Mutukwa died on June 7 this year.

Born on May 14, 1980, he received his education in Shurugwi before later settling in Gweru. Throughout his life, he served in various party structures and played an active role in programmes aimed at empowering young people and strengthening grassroots mobilisation.

His passing marks the end of a life dedicated to community service, youth development and the advancement of national aspirations.
