Homecoming heroine: Bulawayo celebrates Miss Intercontinental Zimbabwe crown

Story by Patience Nyagato

CHEERS, applause and pride filled the air as Bulawayo welcomed home its newest beauty queen, Virginia Nyambe, following her crowning as Miss Intercontinental Zimbabwe at the Miss Universe Zimbabwe finals held in Harare over the weekend.

The title has earned Nyambe the honour of representing Zimbabwe at the 54th Miss Intercontinental pageant in Egypt next year, placing the City of Kings and Queens firmly on the international beauty map.

Fresh from her triumph, the young queen says her reign will be about far more than crowns and catwalks.

Instead, she wants to use her platform to inspire young people, champion social causes and encourage others to pursue their ambitions regardless of the obstacles they face.

“I hope this comes as an inspiration to anyone out there who wants to go after their dreams. Do not let anything stop you. I took a chance, and that chance turned out to be something beautiful,” said Nyambe.

Her journey has resonated with many Zimbabweans because it has been shaped not only by ambition, but also by resilience.

Nyambe has openly spoken about living with endometriosis, a condition affecting millions of women worldwide, and says she intends to use her visibility to raise awareness and support others facing similar challenges.

As celebrations continued in Bulawayo, community leaders described her achievement as a source of pride and motivation for young people.

Bulawayo South legislator Honourable Raj Modi hailed the victory as a milestone for both the city and the country.

“It is a proud moment not only for Bulawayo but for the whole nation. It is also an inspiration for young people to pursue positive opportunities and stay away from drugs and substance abuse,” he said.

For Nyambe, the crown represents the beginning rather than the culmination of her journey.

As preparations gather pace for the global competition in Egypt, she says her focus will remain on advocacy, empowerment and creating meaningful impact.

With a national title secured and an international stage beckoning, Virginia Nyambe now carries the hopes of many Zimbabweans who see in her story a powerful reminder that determination, courage and self-belief can transform dreams into reality.
