THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has called on citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding as Parliament continues deliberations on the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3).

In a statement issued this Wednesday, ZRP National Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, warned that law enforcement agencies would take firm action against individuals or groups seeking to incite violence, disorder or unrest in relation to the ongoing parliamentary process.

Commissioner Nyathi said the police are closely monitoring developments and will not hesitate to act against anyone using social media platforms or other channels to spread threats, incite violence or encourage criminal activities.

“The law will take its course against any individuals, groups or syndicates that seek to incite violence or issue threats through social media platforms,” he said.

He further warned against attempts to mobilise citizens to engage in unlawful activities, including acts of public violence, destruction of property, disruption of traffic flow and any conduct likely to cause alarm, panic or public disorder.

The police reiterated that Zimbabwe’s constitutional and legal processes must be respected and urged members of the public to exercise their rights responsibly and within the confines of the law.

Commissioner Nyathi said the ZRP remains on high alert and has put in place measures to safeguard public safety and maintain peace across the country.

He assured citizens that the police are committed to preserving law and order while ensuring that normal social and economic activities continue uninterrupted during the parliamentary consideration of the Bill.

The appeal comes as Parliament prepares to begin debate on CAB 3 following the completion of the Second Reading stage in the National Assembly.
