CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League side Hardrock FC have indefinitely suspended chief executive officer Kudzanai Hove in the aftermath of crowd disturbances that allegedly led to the abandonment of their league encounter against Dynamos.
The club confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, saying the suspension will remain in effect while investigations into the incident continue.
“Hardrock FC leadership has resolved to suspend Mr. Hove for an indefinite period pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” read part of the statement.
The club condemned the violent scenes and destruction of property that reportedly marred the fixture, stressing that such behaviour was inconsistent with the values of the institution.
“We strongly condemn all acts of violence and vandalism. Such conduct is contrary to the values of the club and has no place in football,” the statement said.
The abandoned match has triggered widespread reaction across local football circles, with investigations now underway into the circumstances surrounding the chaos.
Hardrock FC said it would fully cooperate with authorities, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police, in efforts to identify those responsible.
“As Hardrock FC, we will work closely with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that everyone who played a role in causing the abandonment of the fixture is brought to book,” the club stated.
The club reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the domestic game and indicated that additional information would be released once investigations progress.
Hardrock FC also apologised to supporters, football stakeholders and the public following the incident.
“The club extends its apologies to supporters of both teams, the wider football community, and the public for the regrettable events that occurred,” the statement noted.
The latest developments are expected to intensify scrutiny over security arrangements, crowd management and football administration in the domestic top-flight league, at a time when the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is seeking to strengthen its reputation and commercial standing.
