THE ZANU PF Women’s League has intensified its economic empowerment drive in Midlands Province, with scores of women in Mberengwa District receiving starter packs for income-generating projects.

The initiative is aimed at improving household incomes, promoting entrepreneurship and advancing the Government’s rural industrialisation agenda under the Second Republic.

As part of the programme, beneficiaries have received support for poultry and horticulture projects, which are expected to enhance food security and create sustainable livelihoods.

Beneficiaries said the initiative is helping to bridge long-standing economic gaps affecting women in rural communities.

“For many years, women were left behind, but today we are being given the tools to contribute meaningfully to economic growth in our communities,” one beneficiary said.

Another beneficiary said access to resources, training and markets would be critical to the success of women-led enterprises.

“Economic empowerment is essential. By providing women with finance, skills and market access, we can create real opportunities for women entrepreneurs and drive rural development,” she said.

Others praised the programme for improving prospects for women and their families.

“This will play a vital role in improving our livelihoods. As women, we have long lagged behind in terms of empowerment, and we are grateful for this support,” another beneficiary said.

ZANU PF Midlands Province Chairlady, Cde Tsitsi Zhou said women have a critical role to play in national development.

“Women, this is your time. We must work hard and play our part in helping the country achieve its development goals. The President has already availed US$300 000 for women’s empowerment in Midlands, and more projects will be rolled out,” she said.

ZANU PF Women’s League Political Commissar, Senator Maybe Mbowa said the programme would have a far-reaching impact on the socio-economic status of women across the province.

“We are pleased to see women actively participating in these projects. They will uplift households, strengthen communities and contribute significantly to the development of Midlands Province,” she said.

The Women’s League empowerment programme continues to expand across Midlands, with a growing number of projects transforming livelihoods and promoting inclusive community development.
