DEFENDING Premier Soccer League champions Scottland FC returned to winning ways on Saturday, edging MWOS one-nil at Ngoni Stadium.
After three consecutive draws, Scottland finally rediscovered their cutting edge, ending a frustrating run in which they had dominated matches without finding the back of the net.
The decisive moment came when Khama Billiat combined brilliantly with Mafios Chihweta before slotting home the only goal of the match.
It was a goal that not only secured all three points but also ended the champions’ recent scoring drought.
Scottland coach Norman Mapeza was delighted with both the result and the quality of the goal.
“Very happy with the play, especially the build-up to the goal. Mafios had a brilliant run, and Khama showed great determination to get up and score. It is huge for us because we needed to bounce back after playing well in recent matches,” he said.
MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa admitted his side had opportunities but failed to make them count.
“We had our moments, but we could not capitalise. We just need to keep working hard,” he said.
Elsewhere, Simba Bhora also returned to winning form with an emphatic 3-0 victory over FC Platinum at Wadzanayi Stadium.
AGAMA and Ngezi Platinum Stars shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Baobab Stadium.
Newly promoted FC Hunters registered their first win of the season, defeating Triangle United 1-0 at Heart Stadium.
Bulawayo Chiefs continued their fine form with a 2-0 victory over Chicken Inn, handing the Gamecocks a second successive defeat.
Herentals deepened TelOne’s home struggles with a narrow 1-0 win at Ascot Stadium.
Meanwhile, Manica Diamonds put their off-field challenges aside to secure a goalless draw against GreenFuel FC in Chisumbanje.
The action continues on Sunday, with the highly anticipated Battle of the Cities taking centre stage at Barbourfields Stadium, where Highlanders host CAPS United.
