A CHURCH-led youth empowerment initiative has equipped more than 200 young people in Zvishavane District with practical skills aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and employment creation in line with Vision 2030.

The programme, spearheaded by Christian Youth Towards Vision 2030, focuses on fostering self-reliance by training participants in areas such as detergent-making, construction, solar installation, farming and baking.

Beneficiaries said the initiative has shifted their mindset from job-seeking to job creation.

“I have learnt about solar installation, and from here, I am going out to create employment rather than look for a job. I am glad that I have been equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills,” said one participant.

Another beneficiary said the training had opened new opportunities. “As a young woman who has completed the programme, I am very happy to have been given an opportunity to change my life. This has taken us off the streets, and we are now looking forward to a better future driven by entrepreneurship.”

Others echoed similar sentiments, highlighting a renewed sense of purpose and contribution to the economy. “Before this training, I was focused on looking for a job, but now I am ready to make a mark and contribute meaningfully,” said another trainee.

Director of Christian Youth Towards Vision 2030, Pastor Munyaradzi Chirume, said the initiative plays a critical role in national development by equipping youths with both technical and leadership skills.

“By actively participating in these programmes, youths acquire practical skills, develop leadership qualities and become key contributors to Zimbabwe’s economic and social development. Initiatives like these demonstrate the importance of collaboration between communities, institutions and national development goals,” he said.

Since its inception, the organisation has trained more than 13 000 youths nationwide, contributing to the broader National Development Strategy Two and supporting the Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model, which promotes innovation and self-reliance.

The initiative reflects growing efforts to empower young people as key drivers of economic growth and community transformation.
