THE lighting of the Independence Flame is set to take place this Friday at Zezani Assembly Point, marking a key milestone in the lead-up to Zimbabwe’s 46th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Vice-President, General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga is expected to preside over the ceremony, which symbolises the enduring spirit of the liberation struggle.

The Independence Flame was dispatched from the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe in Harare Thursday morning, signalling the start of its symbolic nationwide journey.

It has since passed through key centres, including Masvingo and Zvishavane, carrying the message of unity, resilience and national pride to communities along its route.

Zimbabwe will commemorate its 46th Independence Anniversary on April 18 in Maphisa under the theme: “Zim@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.”
