In the girls’ category, Zimbabwe also settled for a draw after a 2-2 stalemate against Morocco.

Elsewhere, Senegal edged Benin 1-0 in a West African derby, while Tanzania and Zambia played out a 1-1 draw.

Action continues this Tuesday, with Zimbabwe’s boys facing tough encounters against DR Congo and Morocco, while the girls take on DR Congo and Zambia.

Defending champions Ghana are set to face Burkina Faso in the girls’ category.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals as the tournament gathers momentum.
