RESIDENTS in Mazowe have voiced support for the proposed Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill of 2026, citing its potential to enhance policy continuity and support ongoing development projects ahead of nationwide public consultations set to begin on Monday.
Community members highlighted the benefits of the bill, particularly in reducing the costs and logistical challenges associated with frequent elections.
“As young people, we support it, which makes the policies of the country be fulfilled, and this will contribute to economic growth. We see that there are term extensions that will affect MPs, councillors and the President. This is good as long term projects will be fulfilled. We see that youths are being included in politics, and this is good because the President is saying, leaving no one and no place behind. The Amendment Number 3 Bill is good because it takes the nation forward, if the President is chosen by Parliament, this reduces toxicity. Running elections is also expensive, so this reduces costs. We see that this bill is correcting the issue of the voters’ roll; the registrar has all the relevant information,” a resident said.
Others noted that the proposed changes could allow continuity in ongoing development projects at both local and national levels.
“As residents of Mazowe, we see that the bill is good. If you look at our road from Mazowe, it is one of the achievements that the President is making which he needs to be there to commission and follow through. In my view, the Amendment Bill Number 3 is good. We have many projects that the President is pursuing, and he must see them through. Here in Mazowe, we have a road project, we have irrigation projects that were launched,” another resident said.
The proposed amendment includes extending the electoral cycle for the President, Parliament and local authorities from five to seven years, among other provisions.
Public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill are set to begin on Monday, providing citizens with an opportunity to contribute their views.
