A Mukuru money transfer agency in Bulawayo has been raided by a suspected gang of armed robbers, who got away with over US$70 000 and more than R500 000.

In a split second, a scene from the movie transpired as armed robbers allegedly raided this Mukuru money transfer outlet this Wednesday morning.

The raid was carried out like a scene from a Hollywood Blockbuster movie, as no one saw the robbers when they got in or how they fled from the scene.

“It was like a movie, I tell you, we did not even see them when they came in. We just saw the police carrying guns. It was so scary,” an onlooker said.

“I have never seen such in my life. This is my spot. I come here every day to sell books, but this morning, when I came, we were greeted by an unusual sight. The police were shouting move while carrying their guns, we were wondering what was happening, only to be told that they were armed robbers inside,” eye witnesses said.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is yet to comment on the armed robbery.
The raid of this Mukuru outlet comes on the backdrop of an increase in bank robberies in Bulawayo. In 2024, an Ecobank branch in Bulawayo lost over US$4 million in yet another money heist.
