The 2026 tobacco marketing season officially opens, with the first bale fetching US$4.60 per kilogramme, signalling the start of another crucial period for Zimbabwe’s leading agricultural export.
Guest of Honour, the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, paid tribute to farmers for their resilience and contribution to increase tobacco production and boost foreign reserves.
The opening of the floor coincided with the official launch of Tobacco Value Chain Transformation Plan 2 by the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister, Dr Anxious Masuka.
The new plan lays a strong foundation for how the tobacco industry will achieve the 500 million kilogrammes of golden leaf by 2030.
