THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has rolled out an awareness campaign for the new Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) notes, with authorities stepping up efforts to ensure their uptake.

The Harare Metropolitan Province set the tone for the campaign this Tuesday, with industry and commerce pledging support to the structured currency.

The rollout of the awareness campaign across the country ahead of the official distribution of the ZiG notes has been described as a commitment by the government to achieve its devolution agenda.

The RBZ states that the upgraded banknotes are in line with global monetary trends.

Since its launch in April 2024, the ZiG continues to gain traction as reflected by its increased use in the country’s financial markets, as reserves backing the domestic currency are now at over US$1.2 billion.
