PLAYERS in the tourism and hospitality sector are intensifying preparations as Maphisa gears up to host Zimbabwe’s 2026 Independence Commemorations.
With just over 60 days before the national event, critical departments are working round the clock to ensure the commemorations are successfully staged in Matobo District. The celebrations will run under the theme ‘Zim@46 – Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030’.
Local tourism operators say the opportunity to host the national event has brought renewed energy and economic prospects to the area.
Mr Denny Ncube, a tourism and hospitality operator, said preparations are well underway to accommodate visitors expected to throng the district.
“We thank the Government for availing us the opportunity to host this year’s Independence. We are preparing our houses and lodges, and we are trying our level best to train our youths in tourism and hospitality,” he said.
Part of the preparations include the construction of villas designed and named after traditional leaders from the district, showcasing the cultural richness of Matobo District.
“We are going to have dance groups at these villas. This is Fuyane and next is Nyangazonke. We will be showcasing our culture,” Mr Ncube added.
The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry is working closely with local communities to construct additional accommodation facilities to cater for delegates and visitors.
