THE Government has launched a new national initiative to promote and reward academic excellence, with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education set to recognise top-performing schools across all provinces based on their 2025 examination results.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Honourable Torerayi Moyo announced the initiative will see the top 10 best-performing schools in each province recognised for their pass rates at Grade Seven, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level.
“Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will recognise and award the Top 10 best-performing schools in each province. This will be based on their 2025 pass rates at Grade 7, Ordinary and Advanced Levels. This recognition is a celebration of high performing schools that have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement,” he said.
The programme aims to encourage high academic standards while strengthening equitable, inclusive and quality education in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4.
According to the Minister, the recognition will celebrate schools that have consistently demonstrated strong commitment to academic achievement and the holistic development of learners across the education system.
In addition to the provincial awards, the Ministry will also identify and reward the top five best-performing schools nationally in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) and Cambridge examinations.
The awards ceremony for the national top performers is scheduled for 20 March 2026.
The Ministry says the selected schools will serve as national benchmarks for excellence, inspiring other institutions to improve performance and raise education standards across the country.
Minister Moyo has also invited individuals, corporates and development partners to support the initiative through sponsorships, awards, grants and other forms of assistance, particularly to motivate teachers and school heads.
“All those wishing to extend a kind gesture may contact the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Head Office) through our official communication channels.”
