A 27-year-old man from Magama Village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North has been sentenced to an effective four years in prison after attacking another man with a knife over suspected infidelity.
Khulekani Kangazane was convicted of assault after stabbing a 24-year-old man he accused of having an affair with his wife.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the incident occurred on January 1, at around 7pm at Sandura Business Centre in Chief Chireya’s area.
“The offender approached the 24-year-old victim and accused him of having a love affair with his wife. An altercation ensued, and the offender produced an okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed the victim twice on the back and once on the left middle finger,” NPAZ said.
Police were alerted to the attack, leading to Kangazane’s arrest.
The Gokwe Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment, with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving an effective four-year custodial term.
In passing sentence, the court reiterated that violence involving weapons would attract stiff penalties, underscoring the judiciary’s resolve to protect human life and deter acts of violent crime.
