Young Chevrons advance to ICC U19 World Cup Super Six

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

ZIMBABWE has qualified for the Super Six stage of the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup despite suffering an eight-wicket defeat to Pakistan in their final Group C match at Takashinga Cricket Club.

A superior net run rate ensured the hosts progressed to the next stage at the expense of Scotland.

The Young Chevrons’ place in the Super Six was confirmed following a challenging encounter against a dominant Pakistan side.

After being sent into bat, Zimbabwe struggled against disciplined bowling and were dismissed for 128 runs.

In response, Pakistan made light work of the chase, racing to 132 for 2 to seal victory with a massive 142 balls to spare.

Earlier results in the group ultimately worked in Zimbabwe’s favour, with Scotland’s heavy defeat to England leaving the hosts ahead on net run rate and securing their progression despite the loss.

The Young Chevrons will be hoping to regroup quickly, address their batting shortcomings, and carry the lessons from the group stage into the business end of the tournament as they continue their World Cup journey on home soil.

Zimbabwe will know all their opponents at the conclusion of Friday’s group matches.
