THE Government’s development drive through national strategies, economic policies, and service delivery, focusing on growth, social welfare, and stability have become practical tools to uplift lives of the citizenry.
Building on the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) which prioritises macro-economic stability, infrastructure, innovation, and good governance to achieve vision 2030, Treasury is disbursing funds for total capacitation of key sectors such as health, education and infrastructure development.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Mr George Guvamatanga, highlighted the strategy’s dual approach of promoting growth while maintaining fiscal discipline.
“NDS1, which was implemented from 2021 to 2025, focused on driving growth in agriculture, mining, infrastructure, social services, digital transformation and economic stabilisation. NDS2 is building on these achievements while introducing new approaches aimed at accelerating inclusive and sustainable development.”
He said the strategy emphasises a balance between increased public spending on infrastructure, health and education and the need for fiscal responsibility, while fostering inclusive growth and leveraging technology through e-governance.
Mr Guvamatanga added that NDS2 is also aligned with global development frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Achievements recorded under NDS1 will ensure that NDS2 remains on track, as it will provide clear direction to ministries, departments and agencies and the private sector on government’s development agenda.
