ACTING President Colonel (Retired) Dr Kembo Mohadi has described the late former Vice President, Cde John Landa Nkomo, as a rare freedom fighter who embodied servant leadership, unity and selfless national service.
In a statement marking the 13th anniversary of Cde Landa Nkomo’s passing, Acting President Mohadi said the former Vice President firmly believed in a leadership philosophy where people determine their own destiny, a principle that strongly resonates with the Second Republic’s mantra, Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo / Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo.
Dr Mohadi described Cde Landa Nkomo as a true nationalist, an astute politician and a unifier who dedicated his life to the service of Zimbabwe, holding various ministerial and leadership portfolios from Independence in 1980 until his death.
The Acting President said as the Second Republic embarks on the robust implementation of the National Development Strategy 2, the nation is once again reminded of Cde Landa Nkomo’s wise counsel, “Peace begins with me, peace begins with you, peace begins with all of us”.
He rallied the nation to work to maintain peace and continue to defend national sovereignty.
Born on August 22, 1934, Cde Landa Nkomo died on January 17, 2013 while serving as the country’s Vice President.
