FORMER champions Senegal have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after edging fellow West African rivals Mali one-nil in Tangier, Morocco on Friday.
Attacking midfielder Iliman Ndiaye scored the decisive goal in the first half, pouncing from close range after a goalmouth scramble in the penalty area.
Mali’s task was made harder at the stroke of halftime when captain Yves Bissouma was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Despite showing resilience and moments of quality with ten men, the Eagles were unable to find an equaliser.
Quarter-final action continues this Friday evening, with five-time champions Cameroon facing hosts Morocco in Rabat.
On Saturday, Algeria meet Nigeria in Marrakech, while Egypt and Cote D’Ivoire bring the last-eight programme to a close in Agadir.
