CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs based in Bulawayo have begun reinforcing their squads with new signings as preparations gather pace for the 2026 season.

Highlanders Football Club have moved early in the transfer window, unveiling five new players in a recruitment drive that has generated optimism among their supporters, who are eager to see the club mount a stronger campaign.

Fans welcomed the signings, saying the additions signal intent and a clearer understanding of the team’s needs.

“The way the players have come in gives me confidence that the team understands what we need. I believe next season will be different. It is important to strengthen the squad like Bosso has done. We must give the new players a chance and not judge them too early,” some supporters said.

Club officials say the recruitment strategy is centred on long-term sustainability, with a deliberate focus on youthful talent blended with experienced players already in the squad. The current squad has an average age of 23.

“We are fusing young talent with experience. We are also investing in the future when you look at our average age,” Highlanders chief executive officer Mr Denzil Mkandla said.

Elsewhere in the city, Bulawayo Chiefs have also made five new signings as they look to consolidate their place in the top flight after a challenging previous campaign.

Chiefs’ chief executive officer Mr Javas Thulani Sibanda said the club’s recruitment reflects a shift in ambition, from survival to competitiveness.

“This is our commitment that we are not going back to Division One. We are here to compete and give our best football. We brought in players in line with league regulations and our objective, which is to remain in the top flight,” he said.

Among the players who have joined Bulawayo Chiefs are Kelly Shiandidi from Hwange, Melikhaya Ncube from Highlanders and Brian Muza from Chicken Inn.

Club officials confirmed that further signings are in the pipeline, with additional players expected to be unveiled by Wednesday next week as preparations for the new season intensify.
