ACTING President, General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga, on Thursday met a delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Harare as Zimbabwe enters the final phase of preparations to host the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Zimbabwe is co-hosting the global youth tournament with Namibia, with the competition scheduled to get underway on January 15, marking a significant moment for cricket development in the region.

During the courtesy call, Zimbabwe Cricket chairperson Tavengwa Mukuhlani formally presented the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup trophy to the Acting President, symbolising the country’s readiness to stage the prestigious event.

The tournament will culminate in the final, set to be played at Harare Sports Club on February 6, placing Zimbabwe firmly at the centre of international youth cricket for the duration of the competition.

In a move aimed at inspiring the next generation, former Chevrons captain Tatenda Taibu has been appointed tournament ambassador. Taibu brings notable pedigree to the role, having been named Player of the Tournament at the 2002 ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
