FORMER national team captain Benjani Mwaruwari has urged Zimbabwe’s Warriors to improve their finishing if they are to advance to the second round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Zimbabwe faces South Africa on Monday in a decisive Group B clash, needing a win to secure qualification. The Warriors drew 1-1 with Angola in their previous fixture, creating several scoring opportunities but failing to convert them.
Benjani highlighted recent improvements under coach Marian Marinica, noting that the team has regained its scoring rhythm after a five-match drought.
“I am really happy with the progress this team is making. You can see now the fluidity and the goals are starting to come, we have moved on from the past, where we just passed the ball without creating chances. Now the team is really creating chances, it is looking sharp, but we now need to work on our finishing.
“We are creating chances, and the tournament is about goals. We need to make sure we are clinical and take those chances and score goals, that is how we progress to the next round,” Mwaruwari said.
Zimbabwe currently anchors Group B with a single point. However, victory against South Africa on Monday will guarantee the Warriors a place in the second round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
