Story by Patience Nyagato
ZIMBABWEAN fashion designer Jasper Mandizera, founder of the Ivhu Tribe label, has placed the country’s cultural heritage on the global stage after presenting a distinctive collection at the Threads of Unity Belt and Road Fashion Show in China over the weekend.
Mandizera was part of a diverse group of designers from more than 30 countries. His showcase offered a striking interpretation of Zimbabwean identity, drawing from traditional craftsmanship and regional aesthetics.

His pieces featured hand-woven fabrics, Ndebele-inspired beadwork, and classic silhouettes anchored in deep earth tones a palette that reflects both his brand ethos and the cultural landscapes that inform his work.
Mandizera’s work went beyond mere aesthetics, it served as a form of cultural diplomacy.
By blending local materials and ancestral techniques with Chinese design influences, he created a dialogue on how fashion can build creative bridges across continents while telling the Zimbabwean story and this global recognition reinforces his standing.
He is already celebrated locally for creating iconic pageant designs, including the national costumes for Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2024, Sakhile Dube, and the 2025 representative, Lyshanda Moyas.

For Mandizera, the Ivhu Tribe brand embodies a philosophy of preservation through innovation.
Each garment honours Zimbabwe’s past, celebrates its current creativity, and envisions future possibilities, acting as a cultural message of resilience and national pride.
